Our Full Publishing Program

At the beginning, when MJSPG agrees to publish your work, we will determine the costs and budget for the project. Your costs will include reasonable fees that will be repaid once your book starts to sell. After these initial fees are repaid to you and production costs are covered, you will receive a percentage of sales in regular royalties (percentage of net sales.) Your agent, if you have one, will receive a commission based on net sales, as well.

Now, here's the fun part:

process (6K)
  1. Step 1
Follow the query process described in the Submission Guidelines. When you receive notification that we'd like to review your material, send us your manuscript.
  2. Step 2
We'll read your submission and do some preliminary market research to determine your book's salability. Then we'll contact you within six weeks with our best opinion about the publishability and marketability of your book.
  3. Step 3
It will be a mutual decision to proceed with the publication of your book. Once we agree to go ahead, you will continue to write and hone your book, and MJSPG will fashion a contract for your work. Your contract with us will include the price structure for your particular project, your royalty arrangement, your agent's commission (if you are working with an agent), and a clear accounting for all the related costs to produce your book.
  4. Step 4
Together, we will determine a schedule for the completion of your book. This schedule will include everything from the moment you send us your final manuscript to when the book actually arrives in stores and online outlets.
  5. Step 5
You complete your manuscript and send it to MJSPG. In the meantime, MJSPG will:
    • Complete a preliminary marketing plan for your book (changes may be required as your project evolves)
    • Engage our distribution network in getting sales for the book before it is published
    • Initiate discussions with our designers regarding schedule, page layout, and cover design
  6. Step 6
Your manuscript will be edited by one of our professional editors. He or she will read the material for any inconsistencies and will make suggestions to you for revisions. At the same time, the manuscript will be sent to a designer for review. The designer will:
    • Make suggestions for any graphic material that might be used to enhance the book
    • Suggest possible cover treatments
    • Do an initial layout to determine the book's final length
  7. Step 7
You will make the revisions you and your editor agree upon and submit another version of the text.
  8. Step 8
Your book will be copyedited for grammar and style by one of MJSPG's editors.
  9. Step 9
Your book will be sent to the designer for layout and typesetting.
  10. Step 10
Galleys of the pages will be sent to you for your review. At the same time, an MJSPG proofreader will read and correct your book pages.
  11. Step 11
The designer will send you two cover treatments to choose from.
  12. Step 12
Your editor will coordinate your changes with the changes made by the proofreader.
  13. Step 13
All changes will be sent to the designer for incorporation into the final pages.
  14. Step 14
Final pages and the final cover will be sent for your review. This will be your last opportunity to see the pages before they are printed, so your complete attention to all the textual and graphic details will be necessary. Don't worry; your editor will be there with you every step of the way.
  15. Step 15
The last changes will be incorporated into your manuscript and another set of final pages will be generated and bound with the final version of the cover. These advance galleys will be sent to book reviewers and to our distribution network.
  16. Step 16
Digital files will be generated and sent to our printer; ISBN and bar codes will be ordered and applied.
  17. Step 17
Your book is printed, shipped to the distributor, to stores, and to you. At the same time, the book will be listed on the MJSPG website for sale; implementation of the marketing plan will begin; copyright will be applied for.
  18. Step 18
As sales are made, MJSPG will repay your initial investment and royalties will begin to accrue. Commission will be paid to your agent every six months; you will receive your royalties every four months after the initial investment is repaid.

As you see, this is a straightforward process. If reading this has sparked your determination to publish your work, send us an online Query Letter now.
